Jakarta. Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of seven years in prison for a former high-ranking executive of contractor Adhi Karya who is accused of corruption in the construction of the Hambalang sports center.
“The defendant Teuku Bagus Mokhamad Noor has been proven to be convincingly guilty of committing an act of corruption,” prosecutor Kresno Anto Wibowo told the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday.
The prosecutors also demanded that Teuku pay a Rp 300 million ($25,500) fine.
Teuku was the head of the construction unit at Adhi Karya, one of the companies that was awarded the lucrative contract for the construction of the Hambalang sports center. Adhi Karya is alleged to have bribed former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum and other legislators to win the tender to build the Rp 2.5 trillion sports center.
Prosecutors stated that Teuku, along with former Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng and other individuals, acted to commit corruption.
Teuku said last year that the company paid Rp 80 billion to win the contract.
Anas was named as a suspect for allegedly receiving a Rp 100 billion kickback. He was accused of using the funds to buy the votes of Democratic Party members in his 2010 bid to be the party’s chairman.
During a previous interrogation session at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Teuku said that his company was forced to pay bribes in order to be involved in the project.
Construction of the Hambalang sports center in Bogor remains halted.
