Jakarta. Central Sulawesi police tightened security after a group of unknown gunmen fired shots at a police station, leaving one officer injured.
Poso police chief Adj. Sr. Cmr. Susnadi said that some mobile brigade officers (Brimob) have been deployed to secure the Pesisir Utara police station that had been attacked by four gunmen on Monday.
Police fired back at the shooters, but they managed to escape. First. Brig. Rivaldi is still being treated after being hit in the left thigh.
“We have also deployed more Brimob personnel to secure several other police posts that might be targeted,” Susnadi said.
He said the police have questioned six witnesses of the shooting, and the police are also conducting tests on hundreds of bullet shells found at the scene.
Poso, a longtime area of domestic terrorism and sectarian conflict, is widely believed to be home to the East Indonesia Mujahidin, a terrorist group. The country’s two most wanted terror suspects, Santoso and his number two, Daeng Koro, are said to be hiding in the area.
