Nazaruddin Reiterates Anas Asked for Fee From Hambalang Project

Jakarta. High-profile graft convict Muhammad Nazaruddin reiterated his allegation on Wednesday that former Democratic Party chairman Anas Urbaningrum asked for a fee from the Hambalang project as part of a plan to raise funds for running in the presidential election.
“Firstly, he asked for 22 percent, but then it was negotiated to 18 percent. The one who proposed [the percentage] was Anas,” Nazaruddin said at the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday.
Aside from the fee, Nazaruddin also said that Anas asked Rp 100 billion ($8.5 million) to smooth out the approval process of the project, of which Anas was in chanrge. Nazaruddin said that construction companies Adhi Karya and Wijaya Karya were appointed because they agreed to pay Rp 100 billion.
“This [Hambalang] project was used by Anas for him to contest in the presidential election,” Nazaruddin said.
Anas has been named as a suspect on the Hambalang project. In the indictment, he was said to have made some attempts to collect money to fund his campaign to be a presidential candidate for the Democratic Party. He was accused of cooperating with Nazaruddin through his company Anugerah Group and Permai Group. He had collected Rp 116.5 billion and $5.2 million from various sources.
Anas was also mentioned to have received a Toyota Harrier vehicle valued at Rp 670 million from the Hambalang project in exchange for his backing.
